The Posterior Pituitary Gland Page’s Writing on The Posterior Pituitary Gland (circa 1975)“This gland which we call the post pit gland is also known as the Queen gland for it controls the reproductive processes in women. We find that eighty-eight percent of the women we see have some deficiency of these glandular secretions. Thirty-nine percent of the men we see also have some deficiency in the output of this gland. It is the cause of some cases of baldness at the crown of the head in men, and is the cause of large calves in the midsections of the legs of women. Another indication of a deficiency in this gland is a double-dip or depression in the thighs near the hip joint. Some of the most beautiful female legs are due to the curvature in the mid-section of the lower legs. However, deficient post pituitaries can cause other less desirable things such as frequent urination, high blood pressure and excessive thirst which may cause drinking problems. Also this defect may be the cause of dental decay and troubles with the gums called periodontal inflammation or pyorrhea. The graph which we make from measurements taken of the body, particularly of the arms and legs, tell us about the posterior pituitary gland as well as the other glands. This deficiency of the glands has usually been inherited but an improper diet can make the gland worse and a good diet can make the gland better, but usually the glandular substance in which the gland is deficient must be augmented by posterior pituitary substance. The use of sugar or even natural sugars as found in fruits can make the gland worse. When it is impossible for a woman to become pregnant and have children the cause may be in this glandular deficiency. A less severe case may result in spontaneous abortion, time after time, and nearly everyone (particularly women) knows of such cases. Before a woman gets to this stage she may be highly sexed, as if nature were trying to insure some descendants. It has been noticed that a tree will put an unusual quantity of fruit just before it dies, probably for the same reason – to carry on the seed. Certain mental abnormalities can be due to hypo-pituitary deficiency. Doctor Ronald R. Fieve of the New York Psychiatric Institute has published an article about depression; a major health problem in America. He writes about “Manic-Depression, Success to Suicide”. He estimates that about ten million Americans suffer from recurrent bouts of manic depression, probably the most dramatic form. He states that the manic phase of the milder forms of manic depression may be a positive energizer that drives some of the most creative and productive over-achievers in current society and is probably the most widespread of all psychic illness. I have found that some of the most gifted individuals in our society suffer from this condition, including many outstanding writers, politicians, business executives and scientists where tremendous amounts of manic energy and imagination have enabled them to achieve their heights of success. “Without proper treatment they more often than not go into a “high”, or suddenly crash into a devastating depression that we only hear about after a successful suicide.” Other symptoms are excessive telephoning and frequent buying sprees, along with rapid speech, elation, over-activity and a decrease or an increased need for sleep. The occasions when the high energy state becomes most marked may result in over investing in stocks and business deals, sudden divorce or unexplained angry behavior in their vocations. Later, the same person may switch moods, lock the doors and slump into depression. Dr. Fieve states that creative manic depressives should not be treated by methods that throttle their creativity such as tranquilizers and anti-depressants and unnecessary electroshock treatments. He suggests that regular doses of lithium carbonate, on the other hand, appear to stabilize manic depressive mood swings without interfering with personality, memory or creative output. One man who had been treated by Dr. Fieve for four years said he had previously been treated over twenty years for several nervous breakdowns that were really manic elations. “I would be going great guns putting out thousands of new ideas, acting flamboyant, until I went over the bounds of reality, and was then caught up in a profound wish to be dead without having to go through the shaming defeat of suicide.” In an interview, Fieve said, “That the manic side of milder forms of manic depression is rewarded by the American culture, where men are catapulted to early success by working 18 hours a day and one would probably find it a factor in the ten most dynamic men in America that makes them tick.” He said, “it is traditional in American psychiatry that anybody out of touch with reality is automatically labeled as schizophrenic.” He compared treating a manic-depressive patient as being schizophrenic like treating diabetes with digitalis instead of insulin. In our office we have found all of these symptoms and even more in people who have deficient posterior pituitary glands and furthermore they do not take years of treatment to correct the condition but they respond to the correct doses of posterior pituitary almost immediately. Once the correct amount has been discovered the patient must continue for some time to take this hormone daily. Toynbee, the eminent historian states that there have been 34 civilizations in the last 10,000 years of which only four exist at the present time. Some of them were lost through warfare, disease or starvation, but there were nineteen of these civilizations which disappeared without any known cause. In researching the use of sugar I have found that our predecessors in America had sugar for only about two hundred years. At first it was only the wealthy that could afford it and the annual consumption was only a few pounds per year. Now the average consumption is over two hundred pounds per year per person. The use of sugar and alcohol is what affects the posterior pituitary gland and causes it to lose function. This causes many diseases and because the number of women who cannot conceive is nearly ten percent now, and this figure is steadily increasing, I have come to the conclusion that sugar and alcohol was probably the cause of the disappearance of these civilizations because of the infertility of the women who used sugar and alcohol. It is known that alcohol has been used for many centuries and sugar was used in various countries for several thousand years. In those days the use of sugar was spotty. It was used only in those peoples who were affluent. When these sugar users disappeared there were plenty of people such as were uncivilized to take their place. Now the situation is different. Sugar is used by nearly all the people throughout the world. Instead of sinking into oblivion piecemeal, we will probably do it all at once in a few generations.” Melvin Page, D.D.S.
