Hormones, Depression and Gum Disease
Dr Page, with his system of body measurements was able to determine that approximately 88% of American women and 39% of American men show some degree of deficiency of the posterior pituitary gland. He also had the opportunity to measure the Tarascan, the Myan, and the Otomi Indians of Mexico. These Indians still eat their simple diet of corn, beans, meat, some fruit and their drink of water and pulque. By contrast both the men and the women from these tribes had similar glandular patterns and the posterior pituitary gland was mostly normal. Why the disparity? Page postulated that it has been the use of sugar and alcohol in our diets that has caused a gradual weakening of the posterior pituitary gland. Some of the physical characteristics of a deficiency of this gland are baldness of the crown of the head in men, double chin, double hip curve in women (saddle bags), prominent curvature of the leg mid calf in women (producing beautiful legs in women), hair on the upper lip in women. What are some of the effects of this deficiency? In dentistry it can be periodontal disease. Other problems are diabetes insipidus (a form of diabetes that is not responsive to insulin), a factor in alcoholism (where large quantities of liquid are consumed), frequent urination, spontaneous abortion and the inability to become pregnant, depression and manic depression, high blood pressure. Many cases of periodontal disease respond well with localized treatment plus supplementation with minute amounts of posterior pituitary substance. Further, the medical problems listed also respond well. Some of the most creative and energetic people in our society are posterior pituitary deficient. This deficiency allows the adrenals to overwork and create manic energy. Unfortunately, devastating lows and depression can follow, probably due to adrenal exhaustion. Posterior pituitary substance corrects this condition rather rapidly, without the often mind-numbing effects of drugs. Furthermore, creative abilities are not suppressed. Given the relative preponderance of this deficiency in American women is it any wonder that some gynecologists report that the third most prescribed drug in their practice is Prozac? The effects of posterior pituitary substance is one of Dr. Pages most amazing discoveries. Unfortunately it remains some thirty years later as one of the worlds best kept secrets. An article on the posterior pituitary gland by Dr. Page is on my website, www.pittsburgh-dentist.com. Dr. Pages book Your Body is Your best Doctor is available through www.iuniverse.com.
